The Monroe County Animal Shelter is
temporarily closed, as the search is on for a new shelter director.
After nine years as the director of the
shelter, Vicki Morgan was relieved of her duties this week.
While Monroe County Mayor Tim Yates
could not comment on Morgan, he said the temporary closure is due to "management issues."
"The rumor going around that we shut
down the Animal Shelter is not true," said Mayor Yates. "We
absolutely have no plans to do that. We don't want that to happen. We
are just trying to do what's best for the county and for the

situation is taken care of, the shelter will reopen.
"We hope to have it back up and
running within the next few days," he said.
The shelter is closed to the public but
the animals are being taken care of, said Yates.
