Paint the town purple 
Author: Michael Thomason Staff photo by Michael Thomason After tying a purple ribbon around a courthouse light pole, Monroe County Mayor Tim Yates declared March as Relay for Life Month in Monroe County. The proclamation said 217 new cases of cancer are expected in Monroe County in 2013 and an estimated 103 of those will lose the battle. Yates urges everyone to participate in Relay for Life and help fight this deadly disease. The Relay for Life will conclude with an all night celebration on April 26 at Hiwassee College.
