SWEETWATER-Have you ever been to a surprise party or reunion where the guest of honor was really, really surprised to see everyone?

That was the case recently when former employees of the old Valley Restaurant in Sweetwater and friends and family gathered at the Dinner Bill to surprise Carolyn Bivens, who ran the restaurant her family had started for many years with her late husband, Bill.

About 30 people were there to surprise Bivens, who came from Tellico Plains for the dinner and immediately had her eyes fill with tears when she saw everyone gathered.

"I didn't have a clue. I thought it was my hundredth birthday," Bivens joked as she settled in to enjoy the good times.
