The Tellico Bears traveled to Midway Friday night to face off against the Midway Green Waves in the first round of the District 3-A tournament. The Bears would fight hard to keep their season alive but would fall to the Green Waves, 61-42. The Bears would have two players in double figures on the night: Robert Vandervort and Tyler Peeler. Midway would have four players on the night in double figures.
The first quarter would be close throughtout with Tellico leading 11-10 at the end of the first. In the second quarter Midway would hit four of their nine 3-pointers and take a 10-point lead at one point in the quarter. Austin Balcom would hit two 3’s to get the Bears within five going into the locker room at the half, 28-23. In the third quarter the Midway Green Waves would score 19 points, while holding the Bears to 9 points. The Green Waves would take a 15-point advantage into the fourth quarter, 47-32. Midway would dominate the fourth quarter and go on to defeat the Bears, 61-42, and move on to the second round of the district tournament.
Tellico was led in scoring by Robert Vandervort with 13 points and Tyler Peeler with 12 points. Midway was led in scoring by Clay Clower with 16 points, Jacob Cawood with 12 points, Calab Ruffner with 11 points and Christian Moore with 10 points. With the loss, Tellico finishes its season with a 14-13 record.
