TELLICO PLAINS-The Tellico Bears took on the Greenback
Cherokees Friday night after almost two weeks away from the court. They showed very little signs of
rust. The Bears took care of business by defeating the Cherokees by a final score of
60-49. The Bears would take the early 7-2 lead to start things off, but the Cherokees would claw
their way back and the teams would swap baskets throughout the first quarter. At the
end of the first eight minutes, the Bears would take a 15-12 lead into the second quarter. The
next eight minutes looked very similar to the first, as Greenback stayed close with Tellico. The
Bears were still in control though, and took a 31-26 lead into the half. In the third quarter the
Bears would begin to separate themselves from the Cherokees.
Devin Collier would come up big
on the offensive end with two huge offensive rebounds and quick scores to extend the Bears lead to
11 in the third. The Bears would take a eight point lead into the fourth and never look back. They
would cruise to victory 60-49.
Leading the way for the Bears was Collier with 22 points and
Dakota Rinehart with 16 points. Leading the way for the Cherokees Josh Pace with 27 points. With the
win, The Bears are (9-5) overall and (4-3) in district play.
