SEQUOYAH- The Lady Chiefs encountered a familiar foe in the Chop House Tuesday night. The Loudon Lady Redskins came in looking for a win, something they did very easily twice last year. Sequoyah had 3 players finish in double digits to improve them to 4-1 with a 50-42 win.

Hunter Simpson had 17 points to lead all scorers. The first quarter was back an forth ending 20-19 in Sequoyah's favor. It was a battle early on. Loudon had the size to defend Kassidi Freeman and to put her in foul trouble. Freeman ended the night with just 2 points, 2 rebounds and 4 blocks. Because Freeman was on the bench due to fouls, the opportunity was open for other girls.

Simpson used the open paint to drive and make several layups in the first half. She set the tone for how the rest of the team would respond to one of their leaders on the bench. The Lady Chiefs had a 30-23 half time lead. Danielle Slack was big in the second half, and had a huge game for the Lady Chiefs with 15 points."I'm proud of Danielle and our girls. They battled all night, and some nights were going to have to do that to win," said Lady Chiefs Head Coach Eddie Gambrell.

Emily Ingram also added 10 points to the cause and the Lady Chiefs coasted down the strecth. Loudon cut the lead to under 10 on the final basket of the game. Gambrell said even though they left points off the board, that you can see the offensive system is working. "Our offense is supposed to create open shots and more opportunities. With three girls in double figures, we're moving forward in the offense," said Gambrell.

Chancey Welshan had 6 points to aid the cause. It's important to note that this team was in foul trouble early, but played well off the bench. With continuing defensive pressure and aggressive offensive choices, these girls are quickly becoming a better team as they respond to adversity with the right attitude. That's all their coach wants. "We've got to be mentally tough. We've got Coalfield and McMinn Central coming up so we need to be focused," said Gambrell.
