Monroe County will soon have 600 trees to give away as part of an environmental program from Steve Clark and Associates.
Monroe County Mayor Allan Watson said 600 trees would be allocated for the county and could be picked up at the courthouse when they become available. "The trees are bare rooted and stand 24-48 inches tall, ready to be planted," Watson said. The trees coming to Monroe County will include 100 baldcypress trees, 100 tulip trees, 100 white oaks, 100 Shumard oaks, 100 sawtooth oaks and 100 shortleaf pines.
The trees will be brought to a Walmart in Knoxville, Watson said, then the county will bring them down to Madisonville. Steve Clark and Associates is a multi-disciplinary consulting firm committed to quality sustainable design, is promoting environmental awareness through reforestation. In celebration of the firm's 35th anniversary, SC&A is giving 100,000 trees to be planted across the state of Tennessee.
Anyone in Monroe County interested in the trees can call the county mayor's office at 442-3981. The trees are expected to be available by the end of March.
