It didn't take long for the Tellico Lady Bears to assure themselves of their 18th win of the season as they raced out to a 19-6 lead after one quarter and never looked back en route to a 68-39 over the Sequoyah Lady Chiefs.

The Lady Bears improved to 18-2 on the season, and having wrapped up the District 3-A regular season championship, they set their sights on becoming county champions.
With victories over Sweetwater, the Lady Chiefs were the only thing that stood in the way.
A basket from Sarah McKinnon and a free throw from Sheann Cole gave Tellico a 3-0 lead, but a basket from Hilary Dyer cut it back to one point.

That would turn out to be the closest the Lady chiefs would be the rest of the night. Pressure defense and a fast paced offense led to the Lady Bears leading after one quarter of play 19-6.
Tellico equaled that output in the second frame, outscoring Sequoyah 19-9 to jump out to a 38-15 lead at the half. With unusually cold shooting from the outside, the Lady Bears turned to the inside game in the second quarter, riding the power of Jessi Parson and McKinnon.

The Lady Chiefs never gave up though, and fought hard throughout the second half, only being outscored 30-24. Dyer and Charissa Cardin led the Lady Chiefs in scoring with seven points each and got some valuable minutes from Lindsey Cooper who scored six points and grabbed five rebounds.
Dyer led all players in rebounding, cleaning the glass for 12 boards.

McKinnon led the Lady Bears with 16 points and Mary Hooper grabbed nine rebounds. Cole had an off night scoring
by her standards with nine total points, but her five steals led the high-octane pressure defense.
Haley Simpson, Danielle Slack, and Cardin shared the point guard duties in the absence of Oceana Richards.

Tellico will host Polk County on Tuesday and Harriman on Friday next week. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday and 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Sequoyah will travel to Lenoir City on Tuesday for a game at 6:30 p.m. and will host Meigs County on Friday at 6 p.m.
Tellico (68): Sarah McKinnon 16, Jessi Parson 14, Mary Hooper 13, Cole 9, Moses 7, Crowder 4, Hawk 3, Harris 2.
Sequoyah (39): Dyer 7, Cardin 7, Simpson 6, Cooper 6, Freeman 4, Russell 3, Kirkland 2, Slack 2, Hamilton 2.
Field Goals: Tellico 16-42 (38%), Sequoyah 13-40 (33%)
Free Throws: Tellico 24-38 (63%), Sequoyah 10-14 (71%)
